Craving A Classic!

Hey everyone! So, as I’ve been doing this blogging thing, I’ve been more conscious of trends and new things and what’s “in”. This spring, there has been a lot of trends, what with the big sleeves, florals and seasonal colors that I have loved but felt like I needed to balance those trends out with a classic. This blue sweater was the result!

This is a cashmere blend Eileen Fisher sweater. I’ve never bought anything before from the Eileen Fisher brand. It’s always been too expensive and a lot of the items were too flowey to look good on my shape. Though, I love her fabrics and her ethical business practices, I felt you had to be a real adult to buy her brand (something I rarely feel like!). But, after seeing so many trendy items in the store, that I knew were going to be out of style next year, I thought a little investment piece was ok.

I’m pairing it with my very trendy embroidered jeans and very trendy ballet flats and very trendy purse in this spring’s trendy color as well as my trendy necklace! You can see why I was craving a classic item!

I do like to add some trends into my wardrobe, especially if it’s inexpensive, since it’s a good way to update your closet, but I don’t want to get too carried away. It reminds me of when I was in high school, and everything I wore was a trend and I’d have to buy a whole new wardrobe each year. I’ve gotten a little bit wiser since then!

I think a classic piece also grounds an outfit, making it look more grown-up. I don’t want to look like I’m trying to dress like a teenager. Adding a classic item gives some gravitas to the outfit and I could always use a shot of gravitas! Have a great week everyone!

  1. Not only are you wearing Very Adult Eileen Fisher, you also used the word “gravitas,” not once but TWICE. You’re SUCH an adult today!

I have always loved Eileen Fisher but have only owned pieces found at the thrift store. And sometimes Nordstrom Rack has some marked down low enough that even I can afford it 🙂 And it’s always been Very Nice. And yes, Very Adult.

And this top is, again, a perfect backdrop to that necklace!

    Looking good, ma’am, looking good!

  2. I so enjoy your blog, find it refreshing, compared to some of the others out there. I have several Eileen Fisher pieces in my wardrobe. (My husband is VERY generous!) But here’s the thing about her clothing – it’s timeless. Pieces that are several years old, are still in style today. I love how you “mixed it up” with on trend pieces and classic, you look great!

    1. Thank you Jacqui! I agree with you that her pieces will still work a couple of years from now (and will hold up!). It’s just the sticker shock in the beginning! I have to remind myself how many times I will wear it and then I exhale!

  3. Thanks for your sunny personality and great smile. You show us how to dress the girls. They certainly do rule fashion. I am finally imbracing my figure and enjoying life. Thanks again for modeling the “cute stuff”

  4. I love, LOVE this outfit on you! You look fun AND chic, a great combination.

I own many pieces of Eileen Fisher, wear them all the time, and bought ALL of them on eBay. Once you know your size, you’re golden. Added bonus? I resell anything I get tired of, often for a profit. It’s crazy, but I am simply renting my EF clothing for a while.

      1. You make me laugh! 😉

There ARE caveats, of course. You have to be disciplined and return anything that isn’t as described in the auction (not b/c you don’t like it — but b/c it’s not in good condition or the measurements were wrong). You have to care for the clothing and keep it pristine. You can’t cut off the neckline tag (even if it’s scratchy) if you intend to resell. And finally, know that a tiny moth or drop of red wine will ruin your investment, LOL!

If you DO love the item and wear it until it’s worn out, EF will even buy back her clothing for a $5 credit per item — the Green Eileen program. The clothing is then recycled into new items.
