Why I Haven’t Cut My Hair!

Hey everyone! So, you’ve probably noticed that my hair has gotten pretty long. It’s started reaching my shoulders and flipping up, something I hate. You may have also noticed that my posts have been shorter and I’ve been doing a couple of re-runs. You may even have noticed that all my photos lately have been at my house and photographed by my youngest daughter. You’re now saying to yourself: No I didn’t notice, but why should I care?

Well, I haven’t had time to cut my hair or write longer posts or go anywhere interesting for the photographs because we are moving. No. Not the blog. Not my Instagram feed. Not my Facebook page. We’re moving in real life. My husband was offered a job too good to pass up in North Carolina. So, we are moving from Michigan to the south. It has taken us all by surprise!

To make matters even more complicated, my husband is already down there (hence my new photographer!). So, I’m here trying to pack up a 10 acre farm by myself. Yes, my two daughters are helping, but they have very full lives of their own. Besides packing, I have to put my beloved house on the market. All of those little inconveniences you put up with have to be fixed. The paint has to be fresh. The house sparkling.

So, this is just a long way of saying, I have to take a break from this blog for the next two weeks. I’ll be posting re-runs from when I started this blog and very few people were reading, so it will probably be new to you. I’ve been trying to keep up with the blog (hence the photos taken at my home), but we’re planning on putting the house on the market in less than two weeks and there is just so much that needs to be done.

This is exciting but also very sad. We knew we would move when our daughters were out of the house, in maybe a few years or so, but this came very quickly and unexpectedly. As you can probably all imagine, this is emotionally, mentally and physically exhausting. There are lots of decisions that have to be made that are not easy decisions. We’ve lived in this house for 15 years and in Michigan for the last 20. We have several very old horses this will disrupt and have given away one already. We just adopted 4 barn kittens last fall (bringing our total to 8!) we have to consider. We’re leaving behind family and good friends and great neighbors.

So, as I post these re-runs, remember that I’m cleaning a basement (yuck!), lugging heavy boxes (ugh!), painting every surface and mentally preparing to say goodbye to a very full life here while imagining a new future and send me your good vibes. I’ll be trying to answer your comments, because that is one of my favorite things to do each day (seriously!). Enjoy these photos of our little photo-bombers. The hazards of photographing on our little farm!

See you in two weeks!

But I remember this moving thing—we did it 2 years ago, so it’s still very fresh for me!I loved the idea of getting rid of many things and purging, but can I tell you how sore my body was??

  3. Ohh how emotional and exciting at the same time! Always hard to leave a beloved home…but also exciting to start anew! I have a similar secret to reveal soon but not yet so SHHHH 🙂

I wish you ease and energy with your packing, and an uneventful move. I know this can be such a harrowing time. If you need to vent you know where to find me!

  4. This is heartbreaking. I truly feel your anxiety. But fresh starts are also exciting. God bless you and give you peace throughout this process.

  5. Julia, how exciting! I can’t imagine how sad you must be to leave such a great place, but so impressed that you are brave enough to start a whole new life. I know you will love North Carolina…it is a beautiful state with mountains AND and an ocean, not to mention lakes, forests, and cities. We also made a big move after the children were out of the house, and it was the best decision we ever made. Good luck in your adventures! And all the outfits today are super great!

  6. WOW – that IS big news! Congratulations! What city are you moving to in NC? Moving is a drag, but this is a very exciting time!! You will love North Carolina! Looking forward to hearing all about your move!

  7. Good Luck! I just recently discovered your blog and you are a breath of fresh air. I love that you wear the same accessories, shoes and items of clothing just styled differently. You are the first blogger that doesn’t make me feel like I have to have a huge wardrobe to be fashionable. I also love that we are similar in size and shape. I will miss you during your break, but I envy your new adventure.

  8. I pray that your move will be smooth and that your house sells quickly. 20 years in one area is a long time and many memories! I am sure you will enjoy North Carolina! Take care!

  9. God bless! I am sending you the ameliorating white light. You will bring joy wherever you go and will be happy – but what a wrench to leave your lovely nest in Michigan. I wish you and your family and your sweet animals all the very best. Love, Lauri B.

  10. Welcome to the South! You will learn to love it after the initial culture shock.

We talk differently, we cook different and we’ll love having you here.

I know firsthand about the culture shock — when we moved 200 miles to the south of Metro Atlanta, still in the state of Georgia, it took getting used to for me.

  11. We are in the middle of a move. We will be about 5 1/2 hours from our home of 25 years. It is bittersweet. I hope you enjoy NC. Some days for me are brave and wonderful some feel😥I wish you all the best and God bless you.

  12. Five years ago I landed a dream job so my husband and I did a cross-country move. He’s a tad older than I am so even though he was present, I did most of the work. Fast forward to a few weeks ago … and we bought our first house. We’re smack in the middle of a cross-town move, and to be perfectly honest I do not know which was more stressful!

You have all my sympathy. I even have the same need for a haircut!!

Good luck and we’ll see you when you come out from under the boxes.

  13. Wow that is big news! And a big adjustment. You’ll love it there I think. I can’t wait to see more summery types of outfits to go along with your new weather! Good luck, we’ll see you soon:)

  14. Good luck to you, Julia, may I say that I do not envy you? I hate moving and I can only imagine how distressing this is to everyone, human and otherwise. I am, however, glad that it is as a result of a wonderful new opportunity and wish you all the very best 🙂
