Hey everyone! Can I just say how much I am loving this jean jacket this spring?
I have been wearing it all over Instagram with a dressy outfit and with casual items like this one. When I first wore this on the blog, I mentioned how I first slipped my arm into and just sighed because I knew this was going to be the one! It fit well and the material worked and the style felt so much like me! It’s also available here in plus sizes.
It has some shaping in the back so you don’t look like a big box and I know this is weird, but I really like how it fits in the wrists. It’s not too big around the wrist where you feel you have to pull them up to keep them from dragging or getting in the way. I know, it’s the little things!
I wore these jeans for the last post but didn’t talk about them a lot. This cropped, flare look is a new style that I saw being worn over in the European blogs last year and are over here now. They have some flair at the cuff so they have a wider silhouette. Different than what we’re used to but a way to freshen up your cropped jeans. Yes, they’re maternity jeans again. From now on just assume they are maternity unless I’m wearing an old pair. Now that I’ve discovered the comfort level of them I’m not going back!
I’m still wearing my flatsĀ for these photos because my sprained ankle is not back to 100% yet, so I’m taking it easy. My pair is from last year, but I see tons of really cute ones out there. If you’re like me and don’t like how flats slip off these are a good option because they are tied on and don’t slip. Ok, everyone, have a wonderful week and I’ll catch up with you on Friday!

I think a jean jacket could be considered a basic now–don’t you think, Julia?
In fact, I don’t think my mom has one—glory be, we’re going to have to go shopping~~

Sounds like fun! Totally agree it’s here to stay. No more truck driver, cowboy costume only!
I love how you put this outfit together. It looks great on you. I really like the look of the longer top under the shorter jacket; it breaks up the denim on denim look. Now you’ve inspired me to pull out my denim jacket. I was lucky enough to find it at a Gap outlet a few years ago and it seemed to be a perfect fit despite my oddly shaped body, lol. Hopefully it still fits!
Good luck! Once I started wearing this (after like 20 years without one) I wore it in all sorts of situations and it’s not even a big outlay of cash really.
I have 3 jean jackets!! Love them!

Really? Oh, I can see how I need a white one and maybe a lighter blue one now. Hmmmmm
Hi Julia
I have recently found your blog and love it! I also am apple shaped with a large bust. I adore your jean jacket. Do you think I am too old at 62 to wear one? (I am a young 62!)
Kathy
Kathy, guuurrrll, wear it!
I love this outfit! It really lools good. I also have maternity clothes from 10 years ago! I still wear and love them, particularly a pair of jean shorts. I really like the blue colors on you-very pretty!
Thanks Carol! I’m really loving your haircut in your profile picture. Very fetching!
Cute longer polka dot top to break up the denim blues! Also like the wider jean pant leg which seems to give balance to the top/jacket. Looking so casual-chic in your denim ensemble:)) I need some cute tie-on flats – thanks for sharing all the
pics.
Thank you Kay! I consider it my job or maybe I should say mycalling to share the pics and the knowledge so I’m happy to do it!
Random thoughts, in no order.
I just realized those of us with apple bodies have the Mother Goddess form, beautifully depicted in ancient Turkish sculptures of round women! Which I was lucky enough to see when I lived in Ankara — where I was unfortunate enough to sprain my ankle, like you!
Love the jean jacket — I notice the pockets are high enough that the flaps aren’t over your breasts, which was always the reason I rejected the idea. I’m going to try again, thanks for the inspiration!
I love hearing those stories Bette! Turkey? I’m so curious to visit and see what that country is like. The meeting point of east and west. And I thought the jean jacket trend was just a trend and wasn’t going to jump on it. It’s proven to have staying power and is becoming a classic so it’s def worth looking for one. Good luck!
Gah! Jean jackets! Like a “simple white tee” this is an item that is so hard for me to get Just Right. I have a cropped length one and a collarless distressed one…but neither is quite right.
When I was in my early 20s I had The Perfect Denim Jacket, broken in, soft from many washings, the perfect shade of blue. I was wearing it out to a bar with some girlfriends and was flirting with a cute boy (hee hee remember THOSE days??). Turned out he had a motorcycle and asked if I wanted to go for a ride, I did. And off we rode into the sunset. I don’t exactly remember where we ended up, BUT I LEFT MY BELOVED DENIM JACKET THERE. And I never saw it (or the cute boy) again. Sadness.
So for 30+ years I’ve been trying to replace THAT jacket…unsuccessfully. But I’ll keep trying.

Love it! Yikes, I remember those kind of stories. They’re fun to look back on now but I am so glad I wasn’t my mom then! Yes, keep looking. I see them everywhere, so there is bound to be the perfect replacement. Thinking of you!
Bettye…LOL and a big sigh and a corollary tale! When I was about 12, my mom was driving me somewhere and I saw a blue suede lump in the middle of the road. I yelled for her to stop so I could run out into traffic and get it — and it turned out to be the most perfect blue suede “jean” jacket! I wore it for at least a decade, always wondering whose it was and how it ended up in the road, LOL!
Oh my gosh! I love that story!
Julia, Ilove this whole look on you. Isn’t it fab when you find a good fitting demin jacket? It’s important to get the basics right so that you can build the rest of your wardrobe around it. The flats work so well with the fitted jeans too.

Thanks Anna! That is a good tip for building a wardrobe — get the basics right. I’ll use that!
Love this whole look – a denim jacket is a must! Thanks for linking, xo
