Hey everyone! If you are anything like me you’ve always associated leopard print with Mrs. Roper from Three’s Company (remember that show?) or with an aging beauty who is trying to look younger. Or maybe you associate it more with nighties and boudoir items. I’m here to declare that it’s a neutral. Like beige. Or black.
What? I know. I originally was wearing this outfit with a blue scarf. But, I felt like I was too bright and there was too much of a carnival happening with my outfit. I pulled out this new scarf and saw how it tamed down the bright colors and made the outfit more sophisticated.
You may remember this post where I talked about easing into leopard print starting with pumps. And really, besides gloves, I haven’t gone further with this print, so when I saw this scarf I thought it would be another easy way to ease into the print.
I had been unaware of it’s power to calm down colors, yet add sophistication, to an outfit. If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you saw how well it went with my new green winter coat from a couple of posts ago.
I love this tunic with it’s flattering, asymmetric hemline. It’s also a lighter crepe fabric so I’m anticipating wearing this a lot in the spring and summer. Of course, pairing it with the ever-so-faithful pencil skirt from J. Jill and my booties that I’m wearing out this winter!

I always think of animal prints and Mrs. Robinson—well, at least I used to. But now, it’s just normal for me!!
I am still in a rut about pairing animal print with red for some reason…but look how great it shows against this bright pink!! I love it!

Thanks Jodie! Maybe b/c red and the print both seem so strong. I don’t know. Sounds like an idea for you three ladies? I’ve seen it paired with burgundy on another blogger and it was sooo compatible. Have a great day!
Is a gray leopard print an oxymoron? If not, I’d buy it and wear it. As it is, I never wear brown and can’t seem to make it work in my wardrobe. But on you, it’s fabulous!
Huh. I usually can’t wear brown or tan either but something about this mix of brown and black works. Try it on in the store and see how it looks. You might surprise yourself.
Love leopard print! And I love crepe material. Looks great on you!
Thank you LauriePop!
Hi Julia,
I really like this outfit. The colour is very nice on you. It did strike me however, that you might try reversing the colour with the dark solid– try the bright eye-popping colour for a skirt of pants, and the dark neutral for a top. I’m not 100% certain how it would look, but I think it might work on your shape. Give it a try and post photos… I’d love to see!
Thanks for being brave!
Cheers 🙂
Thanks Dee! I’m always up for trying suggestions out! And I’m pretty sure I have both of those items in reverse colors!
