Ok, Here Are The Suggestions!

Hey everyone! So, after last Wednesday’s post, it sounded like most people wanted me to give the shirt another try. Now, I couldn’t change the color and would have if that was an option, but I tried all the suggestions that were given. I did change up the shoes for my cute pink flats and some new cropped flair jeans. So, let’s see all the suggestions!

Here is the shirt with a large necklace that actually made me feel less bare. It was also suggested to try tying the knot of the shirt in other places. Here it is tied low.

And this option it’s tied higher up.

Here with a smaller necklace.

I 100% agree with everyone that the color is the biggest problem. So, I tried to add some color with the scarves I have that would still go with the outfit. Here I’ve tried a smaller scarf with the latest scarf tying trend.

Here I tried a scarf looped around my neck and hanging in the front and back.

This is an infinity scarf I thought I would try so I wouldn’t have another knotted piece of fabric. It seemed like having two knotted bits of fabric was a bit much.

Well, I still don’t think I’m loving this shirt. The color of the shirt just can’t be overcome. I did like trying all of the options and seeing how one little accessory change made a big change in the look and also how I felt while wearing them. Another good analysis of an outfit from lots of perspectives and opinions! Have a great week ladies!

  1. Good for you, Julia, for taking the suggestions to heart!
And really, when it comes right down to it, if you’re not feeling it, then that’s the prime decision ender!
I guess it goes to show how much color can make a difference. I always want to ignore aspect, if it’s something I really love. I’ll wear scarves, and brighter lipstick instead, but maybe color is way more important than we thought?

  2. I admire your willingness to consider our critiques. I still think this is a flattering silhouette on you, (tied high!!!) so I hope you keep wearing it.

I’d like to see you try some other solutions. Lose the scarves. There’s enough fabric going on with the knot at the waist. I think the large statement necklace you showed first really works, and the fact it makes you feel more covered is a plus!. I don’t know how you feel about statement earrings, but something like an oxidized silver might be a way of introducing some contrast. Otherwise, I might try a bag and shoe combo in a peppy bright color–like red or hot pink.

    1. You know, I’m totally into hearing other’s thoughts about outfits. And I’m fine showing myself as guinea pig b/c there are so few places out in the internet for women with my shape, or similar shape, to see and learn these things. I think of it as my duty now to share the knowledge!

  3. Really like your blog. I agree with the suggestion that the first necklace (combined with colourful shoes) is a good solution. Perhaps you could even find a pair of brighter shoes- green might work. I didn’t mind the first smaller scarf in terms of size, but might recommend a different colour for that. Oh, fashion challenges! But I have learned a number of ideas from your blog, and appreciate your willingness to experiment.

    1. Thank you Laura! Yes, I think other colored scarves or pants or shoes could have worked better. For a fashion blogger, I have a regular-sized closet so I have that limit too. I was contemplating wearing black pants instead of jeans but wanted to keep it similar to the last post. Thanks for commenting. I always appreciate them!

  4. I really liked this with the first necklace, the big necklace. I thought the outfit looked really cute on you!

    1. Thanks Kelly! That was my favorite version too (I always put my favorite photo as the first one!). I think if the necklace had been black with black pants I could be convinced to try it again! Thanks for supporting this blog here and on Facebook!

  5. Hi Julia,

What is the latest scarf tying trend you refer to in the photo with the orange/brown scarf?

Yes, agree…first styling is the winnner…

  6. I think it’s fantastic how you tried out all the suggestions! Thanks for doing that. I do agree that nothing can really save the color. That being said, I liked how the small knotted scarf looked with it, but the colors clashed. Since you do look great in that kind of a top, maybe you could knot one of those waterfall cardigans and put a nice tank top underneath it. All in your complimentary colors of course.

  7. I love the first photo/outfit, with the chunky necklace, rockin’ jeans, pink flats, and beautiful smile. But I’m with you, I don’t find the top flattering. Why put a big attention-getter over the largest part of you? The eye is immediately drawn to the knot — why go there? Pun intended.
