A Winter Outfit That Connects Me To My Past!

Hey everyone! Happy Wednesday! I’m back with my glamorous faux fur vest that always reminds me of my sturdy Polish female forebears. I’ve seen pictures from the 1960’s and 70’s where the ladies would have a fur stole on, not like the glamorous Hollywood photos of women wearing fur, more like wearing a brown tweed suit with a small fur wrapped around their neck or shoulders taken in someone’s small living room with green carpeting. Ya’ know what I mean?

Anyway, it makes me feel a bit glamorous and connected to them. Funny how an item of clothing can do that.

So, this vest is from last year, so it’s no longer available but if you are ever tempted by faux fur sometime, give it a try. Perhaps you’ll be in a picture somewhere in a couple of decades looking quite glamorous with your fur stole!

I’m wearing the best black pants of 2018 and a cute long tunic that you’ve seen before (like here and here). It’s an easy top to wear and, though it’s no longer available in my dark pattern, they have it in solid colors and several other colors/patterns here and here.

Where are we taking these pictures? We are in downtown Lansing, Michigan’s capitol, right on the Grand River. The pictures with the two tall smoke stacks is the skyline of downtown but the capitol dome is not tall enough to show from this angle.

When we switch angles, the background is of Old Town Lansing, which is a cute couple of blocks of historic buildings that are being rejuvenated as restaurants, design studios and art galleries.

All the pictures this week are from that area of town. It has some great bridges, colorful murals and old, brick buildings that make great backgrounds for these pictures. This winter we’ve been so hampered by weather to get out and about for photo shoots that it is fun when we’re able to find photogenic locations. And of course, lunch afterwards!

Alright, that was your little downtown Lansing travel escape (so much glamour!) for the day. If you like this post, feel free to share it on your favorite social media or tell a friend. Thanks for helping me spread the word about this little corner of the internet!

Have a wonderful rest of your Wednesday!

  1. I have that top. I purchased it after seeing it on you a while back because it was so flattering on you! It is flattering on me, too!! Subsequently, I did purchase 2 more in the solid colors, but the fabric was very thin on the solids and you could see the color of my undergarments in the stick out area of The Girls. At least on me. Ugh! Returned both of them, sadly. Keep up the good work … you seem to find so many darling pieces. Love your blog.

  2. So good to do what I call “getting out of your little box.” I mean, getting outside your usual daily footprint. Most weekdays are just home to work to home to work maybe to the market or out to local dinner with friends then home. The world starts feeling very small and familiar…to me, anyway. I need to get outside that area as often as possible. So is East Lansing glamorous? Maybe not. But it’s DIFFERENT. And HALLELUJAH to that.

And yeah, the green carpeting, ha ha. My house growing up had green carpeting. Except for my bedroom. I had like a pink and red blend shag carpet. Groovy, baby!

That faux fur must feel nice up around your neck on a cold day.
