Back To Normal With Big Changes!

Hey everyone! How are you doing today? Let me say, I am feeling better than I did last week. Thank you for allowing me the time and space to process this big change and your encouraging words. I honestly felt better after I wrote about it last week and felt (somewhat) ready to move on.

Is spring really here?

So, the closing went fine without a hitch. I did put a tissue into my pocket in case I started to cry but you get busy with the “sign here and here and here and here” that you don’t really have a moment to reflect. That was fine. Who wants to have a cry in a real estate office surrounded by strangers?

After that, my very dear friend Denise, kept me busy and we went out to eat and sat outside and that is the first time I’ve gone out to eat in over a year! I didn’t even eat out last summer when we could’ve sat outside because everything was too insane, but now that we are both double-vaccinated and the weather was warm, we did it. The meal was meh. LOL because I didn’t even care! It was so nice to be doing something normal again.

One thing that was kinda weird, was that we walked out of the real estate office with a big check in our hands and yet were able to come back home to the farm, like nothing was different. It’s a bit surreal, like, did that really happen? And then you check your checking account and think yep, I guess it did happen. I feel for the buyers who probably emptied out their checking account and still had to go back to their old home. Well, soon enough, 26 days and we’ll be out, but who’s counting?

Each day I’m getting more and more used to the idea that I’m no longer going to be living here and living this life. I’m grateful that I had the time during the pandemic to really appreciate this place. I had never walked this land so much and paid attention to every bird and bloom as much as I did when we were hunkered down here for 2020. This place saved me.

Speaking of interesting places to live — we did buy a house, a much smaller house, about 45 minutes away from where we live now. It’s a block away from a lake and is “in town”. It has a park nearby with lots of trails and the lake has lots of recreational opportunities. There is a long bike path nearby and they even have cross country ski rentals and groomed trails in the winter. It seems like a pretty active neighborhood, though the houses seem extremely close to each other (says farm girl). This will be a big change.

And now squeezed into a shoe box for a nap

It’s also a much smaller house. When we tried to sell our house in 2017, we purged like crazy, so we probably only have half the stuff we used to, but the lake house (that’s what we call it) is about 1/3 smaller than this one. The basement though looks dry so that will be good for storage and it has a two car attached garage so that will hold some stuff too. Downsizing from a 10 acre farm to a small house in a neighborhood will be interesting. Another big change.

Since the houses are close together, it also means the yards are pretty small. Our yard is pretty wooded so there is some privacy and the neighborhood has mature, natural landscaping. Like, hardly anyone has fences, but lots of big bushes and pine trees for privacy. But, probably not enough to go outside in my pajamas anymore. Ch-ch-change.

We did have our end of the pandemic party on Sunday at a friend’s house with two other couples who all are double vaccinated and past the two week mark for full efficacy so we were able to hug and laugh and eat and drink all inside. This was my contribution:

It was so much fun putting together that board! Of course, it was delicious, but arranging it was a surprising bit of fun!

Now that I am fully vaccinated, I am catching up on all the things I haven’t been able to do in a year, like go to the hairdresser! I have an appointment booked for Thursday, so I will feel better about getting some pictures of myself up on this blog, Plus, I have some new clothes coming in the mail, so I’m hoping some of those work out so I can show you my new hairdo and my new clothes. Starting back up some of the pre-pandemic focus of this blog.

Now as I adjust back to normal, pre-pandemic life, as well as manage some big life changes, I’m feeling a bit like I’m floating down a river, just bumping along in rapids, or swirling around in an eddy or two, or floating imperceptibly slow in a deep, calm section. Yet I’m continuously moving and have no control of the current or where the river is going.

Are you feeling the same? Well, if so, then keep hanging on here and we’ll get where we’re going together.

Take care everyone!
