I Would If I Could…Easy Fall Tops!

Hey everyone! If you follow me on Instagram you know I did some shopping this weekend. I have to say I had to show a lot of restraint! I feel like the retailers roll out their cutest designs in the fall. Of course that could be me because this is my favorite season and it’s easy to put together an outfit in the typical fall weather. Especially with these tops from Talbots!

This top is made of nice material (rayon/nylon) that skims, not clings (my favorite mantra!) and has some stretch. It has seams down the front that give it some shape and structure and the sleeves are really cute and don’t get in the way.

It’s also available in black and cream but also really pretty wine and indigo colors too.

I can imagine a long, eye-catching necklace being worn with this top, maybe something that’s a statement piece. Or a pretty scarf hanging down when it’s cooler weather.

This top is similar to the one above except the sleeves are different and so unique! It has stretch and some weight to it so it hangs nicely. It’s also available in the perfect fall color of “wildberry“. Love these names for colors!

I’ve always associated Talbot’s with a store my mother-in-law would shop, so I have only recently re-discovered them. Now, maybe because I’m older, I feel most of their clothes have the balance of comfort and style and are still on-trend. You saw in the last post some comfortable jeans that fit my shape really well from there and I’ll be showing several more items in the next couple of posts.

And the last item from Talbot’s is this pretty long sweater. If I was taller (I’m 5’2″) I would have gotten this. I love the buttons on the sleeves and it hangs so nicely since it’s a ribbed fabric so it has some weight. They have it many pretty colors like green and turquoise but also classic colors like gray and tan and they have it in plus size too.

So, this doesn’t even sum up all that I tried from all the stores! If you remember reading my tips for shopping for an apple-shape (here) you know I take in many, many items to find just a few. I make sure I’m wearing easy on and off clothing and don’t wear dangly earrings because I’ve lost a few that way. Please learn from my mishaps so I know there is a reason!

      1. I don’t know if you considered it, but the duster is available in petites and women’s petite for shorter gals. If it wasn’t available at the store where you shop, it can be ordered on the red phone with free shipping. However, you may just not feel that comfortable with a duster

          1. Yeah, I just saw it is 30% off on a flash sale until midnight. And, no, I don’t work for Talbot’s! Just a big fan.

  1. Also, I know what you mean about the dangly earrings! I have lost more jewelry in changing rooms! I have learned to take a plastic bag and put all jewelry, watch, etc. in the bag and the bag in my purse, before trying on clothes. I know I could leave them off entirely, but gotta have my bling!

      1. I hate to disagree with everyone else–the length would be better just a little shorter with Julia’s height. There is not enough skirt peeking out and it doesn’t look in proportion–looks as if it needs to be either (1) the length of the skirt or (2) shorter to be in balance and not overwhelm the outfit underneath. Longer sweaters can be tricky on short gals–have to make sure it is in proportion to your height or they just come off as being something you grabbed heading out the door. Look in the full-length mirror, Julie, and go with your gut. Your first instinct was right on! Trust me–I have been working with 5’2″ for a long time.

        1. Thanks Cheryl for adding to the discussion! I think it’s ok for us all to have differing opinions b/c we see it differently. I am cautious about looking like I’m wearing a bathrobe so that is always one of the first and foremost considerations when I’m trying on something long. And if I don’t love the look, even if others do, I won’t be able to pull it off. Thanks for the insight into the skirt length too!

          1. You are absolutely right–if one doesn’t love it, it will never work. I didn’t think about the bathrobe–that’s a hilarious illustration! You are so down to earth, and I appreciate the opportunity to share.
