Glamorous Fall Outfit For My Apple Shape!

Hey everyone! I just can’t stop wearing these pants! My danger pants are perfect for this time of the year and make me feel so glamorous! (If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you can read about it here)

My tan is gone and I may or may not have started slowing down on shaving my legs (in preparation for winter, come on!). These pants are still cool to wear and are a bit cropped but my legs are covered. I find them very comfortable and the color is a really fun addition to my wardrobe. They do have black and gray versions of these pants if this paprika isn’t working for you. And have I mentioned the pockets?

Because these pants are wide and flowy, I definitely wanted a more fitted top. I had tried on one of my longer sweaters (which is on sale btw!) and it made the outfit lean towards “pajamas”. For my stature (I’m 5’2″) I needed a cropped top (which ends right below my belly) and something that hung straight down and didn’t billow out in the least. You know I don’t like a tight fitting top though. A key strategy I have learned in a situation like this is to wear a fitted shirt then top it with a looser third piece like a sweater or jacket. As long as you don’t see the dreaded belly button dent or the indent of a waistband then the fitted top will work well. You’ve seen this black tank top dozens of times on this blog and it is the item I reach for when I can’t find anything to wear. The black is a matte, so no shine, and has very forgiving shadows. It has two generous necklines which give some breathing room between my chin and ample bust. It has stretch but doesn’t cling like a cotton tank. I have gotten my money’s worth out of this top and you’ll be seeing it for years to come. If you’re interested, it’s now on sale here.

The shoes you’ve seen many times before but I like them as a transition shoe to wear between seasons. Pretty soon it will be too cold to wear them since they’re a bit open but for right now (and in the spring time) they are perfect.

The sweater is a new item since my other gray sweater by the same brand is a bit worn and sad looking because I’ve worn it so much. This sweater has some silk in it, so it’s got a really nice drape and hangs very straight. It’s also available in some other colors and I expect to be getting a lot of wear out of it too!

And thanks to my good friend who has been forced to be my photographer while Dave is away. She does make me laugh though while we’re doing this! Thanks Leslie!

  1. Ha ha, love your danger pants!

I bought a pair of wide legged cropped tencel pants and I loved the way they felt but the length/width just didn’t seem in proportion to me and they’re in the mailer waiting to be returned, BUT seeing these on you and we’re about the same height and I think these look nice on you…maybe I should give them one more try. Maybe I’ll post a pic somewhere and see what others have to say. They’re SO comfortable and I’m really “pants deficient” heading into the cooler weather.

Your friend did a nice job w the pictures! If you ever travel to NY I’d love to shoot you (I’m also a photographer).

    1. Ok, deal! We’ll both photograph each other! I want to go to NYFW some year. I was planning on going to NYC (never been!) with my girlfriends for my 50th but we decided to move and turn our lives upside down instead! Hopefully next year! Yes, give them another try. It’s like a long dress but without the thigh rub!

  2. Very practical and good looking outfit. I have come to the conclusion my clothes need to be stylish and comfortable. This outfit fits the bill. Thanks, Julia

  3. Guess I must be one of the lucky ones as I have never ever needed to shave my legs in my life (may because of my underactive thyroid).
