When Pants Inspire Deep Thinking!

Hey everyone! Have you ever put on an item of clothing and just felt different in it? Like, in a good way? I did when I put on these pants. I just felt, I don’t know, more…relevant.

So many of my outfits are practical, everyday work or errand outfits. Occasionally I throw in a fancier item but usually I’m a pretty solid, middle-of-the-road dresser. And that’s ok! That is my style and my life and glamour and impracticality don’t have much use in my day to day. But, when I put on these pants they just felt so different. Yes, comfortable. Yes, pretty. But with the breeze blowing them around so elegantly and feeling so fashionable in them just, I don’t know, brought out something else.

My girlfriend, who I cajoled into photographing me, commented that she never would have paired the pink and orange together, and I agreed, except when I tried on the pants I was instantly drawn to the pink top. I think the result is incredibly natural. I’ve never worn pink and orange together and I’d never even think to try, but the pants just pushed me to try something different. Oh, I get it now. They’re danger pants.

If you read Monday’s post, you know I’m going through a big change in my life with my baby birds flying the nest. I’ve been feeling a little…undefined. But, I think I’m starting to get my feet under me. Yes, it’s probably not the pants, but my own self doing this, though they did get me thinking.

This post got philosophical quick, didn’t it? Just so you know, I usually don’t know what the headline of the post will be or even the content of the article until I start writing. Mostly I just start thinking about how I felt when I was wearing the item, talk about the fit and other practicalities and the words flow from that.  I had to keep stopping and going outside while writing this post to examine how I felt and why. Methinks these danger pants may be a talisman for the next phase in my life. Hmmmmm.

He does know how to take a pet, doesn’t he?

In practical matters, I’m wearing petite large in the pants and they also have them in grey and black and plus size. And don’t forget the pockets! You saw this pink top just a couple of posts ago, being worn in a casual way. Here it’s glammed up a bit with a big chunky necklace that lays perfectly under a neckline like this. This is a perfect garden party outfit if anyone is going to one this summer/fall.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and perhaps you’ll find some time to do some fashion philosophizing! Yikes! Try saying that three times fast!

  1. Oh you have a Corgi. Life with a Corgi can never be all bad. It looks like a Sheltie too.

Oh yeah, the outfit looks great. I have started wearing navy and black or black and brown. I saw some bloggers doing it and I love the look.

    1. Unfortunately (and sometimes fortunately) this Corgi and Sheltie are not mine, though I love them both. The corgi thinks anyone with a camera must be wanting a picture of him! I have ventured into blue and black but I don’t think I’ve really tried brown and black together. I’ll look into that!

  2. I recognized so much in this post (and not just the house, dogs, and sneaky camera lady.) Love the idea of taking chances with clothing inspiring changes in self. It worked for me, for sure: about three years ago I completely revamped my wardrobe and the rest of me followed along for the adventure.

  3. Hi I think they go together because the pink is really pale, but it think it looks very nice.Where is the house you are at is it yours.?

  4. The pink top looks adorable with the adorable pants. Isn’t it fun to have the courage to try on things you never would have in the past? Some things may work, and some things may be ghastly, but that’s really what I love about fashion…just using your creative mind to make something pretty that no one else has thought o, and is unique to you and your personality. And the setting is so perfect for this outfit! 🙂

    1. Thanks Susan! I agree about the setting, totally works and totally unplanned. What I like about this color combination was that I didn’t have to be all analytical about it, actually just very intuitive. I like that a lot! Have a great weekend!

  5. Ya gotta love ya some Danger Pants!!!

Since computers always show colors differently it’s hard to get a read on the color of the pants, you said orange, to me they’re looking sort of rust/cinnabar…a color I have been DESPERATELY trying to get into my wardrobe for two years, to no avail. I feel my life will not be complete until I have a duster in that color. But I digress – I think they look fabulous paired with the pink top – they’re both from that same warm/fleshy-toned region of the color wheel, so…

Is that your house? Are those your dogs? Inquiring minds want to know!

    Got Labor Day weekend plans??

    1. Perhaps the color is more tomato, but I could see masala or cinnamon or curry or chile. I’m getting hungry! No. It’s not my house, it’s my girlfriends. It’s from the 1800’s and they’ve been slowly but steadily bringing it back to it’s old glory. Those are also her dogs. I have the dogs you see on a more regular basis, the border collie and rottweiller mix.

  6. Dangerpants! I love that. For me, they’d be the perfect pair of dark boot-cut jeans — which I haven’t found yet.

  7. Well done Julia for stepping out in your danger pants! I totally love this look on you, probably because it’s adventurous and yet suits you perfectly. Dare to be different is a saying that I grew up with and this outfit says that to me. This change in your life is the ideal time to stretch your boundaries and redefine yourself – go girl!

I hope you managed to catch the interview. The details are on my blog post today.

    Best wishes
