Pretend I’m Wearing Different Boots!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to get that out of the way and tell you that these boots would not have been my choice to wear with this dress. As you know, I only intended to stay in North Carolina for a week but am staying here for the whole month of December so my outfits are getting wonky while I try to show you different combinations of what I did bring!

I would have worn this dress with my other black tall boots that are more form fitting and have a bit of a heel. Or I would have worn my beautiful burgundy boots (they’re back in stock now!). But, nope, these are the ones I brought down with me so that’s what you get to see! These are too wide at the knee for wearing with tights though they work great with pants. Also, even a slight heel would have made this outfit so much nicer.

So, anyway, this dress is a perfect casual dress to wear with leggings. I bought it this fall and am only getting around to showing it to you guys now but that’s good because it’s way on sale and about 1/3 of the cost of when I bought it!

And a jacket that actually zips if you have a big bust! This jacket has been getting a lot of wear here in North Carolina because it’s uncharacteristically cold down here (another thing I wasn’t prepared for!) so I’m wearing this jacket and my holiday wolf sweater (they call it a husky — I think she’s a wolf!) a ton to stay warm! The jacket is also available in plus size here. And I can’t forget my scene-stealing purse!

Well, pretty quick post today since the outfit is really uncomplicated and really easy to wear and doesn’t need a lot of explaining. Have a great weekend ladies!

  1. Lovely outfit for this time of year. The boots look fine but I see where you were going if you were wearing the heeled boots. The length of the dress is perfect on you. You look great!

  2. Great jacket! It’s kind of a surprise when you get to the South and the weather is not what you expected. Thank goodness for layering. By Christmas it may be warm and sunny again.

    1. Yes and I’ve worn the wolf sweater many, many times! Good thing I love it! I keep hearing it’s going to warm up and I hear the summer’s are brutal so I’m trying to keep things in perspective. Plus, in Michigan they have almost a foot of snow so my daughter’s don’t feel sorry for me at all!

  3. You look darling. You will be so thankful to get you and your clothes reunited. 🎄also the dress really fits your shape nicely. My Mom always said “make due with what you have” of course she was raised during the depression. It is a great skill to have. You can say I took these pics during the move of 2017. You look wonderful.

    1. Oh gosh Kathryn, thank you! I’m missing my burgundy boots the most b/c they would have worked so well during the holiday events. Oh well! First world problems! My daughter’s are coming right before Christmas so I’ve given them a list of items to bring — mostly my sweaters since it’s unseasonably cold here. Have a great holiday!

  4. Love the entire look. You’re using what you have on hand and “making it work” – well done!

As a 2nd generation child of the depression, I, too, grew up hearing, “make do”, had very big hems for “letting down” and things were mended, and taken care of. I have shoes from last century that still look amazing. I am on a shopping moratorium and using what I have for this season…I have way too many clothes.

    1. Yeah, I hear ya! I’m going on a no shop January (or so I’m going to try!) b/c I have more than enough too. I find I cook the most creative dishes when I’m just using what I have on hand so I’m trying that out with clothing now. It’s been fine b/c I also had my summer clothes packed in boxes and brought down here so I’ve been able to wear lots of layers using them!

  5. Okay first, I LOVE YOUR TITLE! I may steal this as well…I have many posts planned – “Pretend I’m Thinner,” “Pretend I’m Prettier,” “Pretend I Have Hair,” “Pretend I’m Wearing Sequins,” “Pretend I’m a Magical Unicorn Fairy Princess” – ha ha I was hysterical when I read this! Brilliant!

Ha ha, I hope you know I mean this in jest, I’m not picking on you 🙂

The dress is darling, I like the shorter length, it’s very modern and easily wearable with tights in cold weather.

Are you all ready for the holiday? I’m STILL waiting for my daughter to come tree shopping with me and Christmas is a week away! Gah! Children!

Speaking of the holidays, I’m gonna go throw some sugar cookies in the oven, just for me, ha ha ha! No tree shopping, NO COOKIES FOR YOU!!!
