Re-imagining The Special Occasion Items!

Hey everyone! Happy Wednesday! So, I had originally bought these pretty red heels to wear for special occasions but I don’t have all that many special occasions at the moment. Also, I always want to get my money out of an item, so before I purchase something costly I consider the cost-per-wear, which means if it’s expensive, I better be wearing them often!

So when I kept seeing these heels sitting in my closet looking all bright and pretty I decided I had to to re-imagine their purpose and kinda play a trick on my brain to get them into regular rotation. This is like drawing the boobs on the model. It’s just a way to get my mind thinking in the right direction. So, when I wore these out to dinner last Saturday, I pretended they were just red booties with suede ribbons over the top instead of full-on suede. Then, pairing them with jeans was easy because everyone wears booties with jeans all the time!

I love how they so quickly and easily elevate an outfit. Honestly, you could be wearing the most boring outfit and if you popped these shoes on you would have upped your style game tenfold. Instant fashionista! They’re also available in a metallic bronzeΒ which would be just as effective. Even though they are a higher heel than I usually wear, the suede ribbons are sturdy and hold your foot in place. The heel is also designed so it is under more of your foot than a traditional heel.

As you know, I am always on the lookout for tops that look good all by themselves and don’t need a “third piece” like a jacket or sweater over the top to make it presentable (especially when it’s 80 degrees!). For my apple-shape they are few and far between. But, when I find one that’s easy to wear all by itself then I know I’ll be wearing it a lot.

This top is so easy to wear. It is my favorite fabric mix of rayon and spandex and it’s really soft. It does have a high slit on the side, which gives it the room for my shape, but requires a tank top or something underneath unless you don’t mind a bit of skin showing. I mind, especially in that area! I can’t find the exact top on the Loft website but they have it in blue here, a longer tunic here and in pink and white here. Perhaps you’ll have better luck at your local store. Looking at these pictures I would have added a longer necklace to make it more polished, though when I was getting dressed I thought the cowl neck was enough. But, I can see a pop of color, maybe red, maybe the necklace I wore in the last post, would have been a nice addition.

And lastly I added my clutch that is sold out online (though sometimes they re-stock) but I saw that my local Chico’s had some so perhaps you’ll be able to find it at your store. If not, here and here are very similar. I am finding this clutch is really handy when going out so I am on the lookout to add another to my collection!

Ok, well, I hope this helps you re-think some of your special occasion items in your closet that you want to wear but feel, for whatever reason, that you shouldn’t. Really, if we love it we should wear it as often as possible even if it means playing some sort of trick on your brain! See you Friday!

  2. Ha ha, thanks for reminding me about boob-drawing. That was my favorite post ever!

But I also like your tricking the brain idea to get yourself into fancier shoes for every day. You’re brilliant! And I think the shoes look great with the white jeans (which always feel a little dressier to me, anyway). And I love the idea of the bronze metallic ones, too!

Rayon and spandex a favorite of mine as well…what’s not to love! A lot of my inexpensive stretchy dresses from Old Navy are that blend and they’re wonderful to wear.

    Loving your posts lately!

  3. Those shoes are WOW. The price is up there. You are brave to buy them and wear them. You are right though best to wear them and get your money’s worth. I truly think you will. They will go with lots of outfits. You have inspired me. The boob drawing is a great idea.πŸ€“

  4. Thank you for posting about these shoes. They look much better on than the photo. I would not have considered them by seeing them in the photo alone. The price is a little steep, but I’m gonna get some!
